We Are Young

On the last weekend of October, I went to Snowdonia, a region in the northwest of Wales for a hike. Well, after hiking Bukit Jambul in Penang and Trans-Ili Alatau Mountain in Kazakhstan, hiking seems like a thing for me now, huh? hehehe Alhamdulillah after almost 4 hours walking up the 7 kilometres Llanberis path, we finally made it to the top of Mount Snowdon! It was 1085 metres high (that's 3560 feet guys), and as far as I can remember it was -12 degree Celcius at the peak on the day we went there... (On that note, as someone who can easily get (perpetually) cold, I should be utmostly grateful that I did make it to the peak and hike back down to the foot of the mountain again alive though) Some pictures of Snowdon cause I don't have much to tell but masya Allah, the views are so stunning that I wish I could be there again! (my apology for the low quality pictures, and I didn't really take a lot of them since I was freezing to death huhu) Passed by a lake b...

The PS: The 'Primary Statement'

A month has passed since I first landed in Heathrow at the end of my summer break. As I thought adapting would be better this time round, in my second year, nothing actually gets any easier. It's awful, and annoying at the same time, for the fact that the first thing I had in mind when I first arrived is, when will my next first day in Malaysia is going to be? I have been struggling to resist the urge of going back for 40 days by now. And regardless, whether I'll make it home or not next summer; well everything depends on my fieldwork schedule for next year, I guess I have no other choice. Life goes on. Time is still running. The only thing I need to do at this point is to find the reason to hold on. For the past year, I have been occasionally asked by my friends as well as my sisters for my PS, or 'personal statement', which is basically an essay that you have to send as part of the application to enter UK universities. I am not here to give tips and advices ...

"Oh...jadi abang solat, nak ketuk pintu apa?" "Syurga!" jawab si abang, ringkas. Ada sen...

A Journey Back to the Past #3: Welcome to Kazakhstan!

Sunday 19 th August 2018, 7.00 am From not being emotionally prepared to attend a fieldwork for the previous few days, I was surprised for an unexpected flip of mood I got that morning. Over-excited  might be the most accurate word to describe it. I was anxious and curious at the same time, for not knowing what to expect for the upcoming 3 weeks. “Sorang je?” “Study sana ke?” Asked a few officers when I passed by the immigration checks in KLIA. “Ha ah sorang je.”  Even though this is my fourth solo flight overseas, but it’s my first solo flight to a non-English speaking country huhu “Eh bukan study sana, ada fieldwork” I answered frankly and left another curious officer who might have guessed that I am a student as he scanned my bag pack and laptop as well. Almaty Airport The 8 hours flight was fine. I actually fell asleep throughout most of the journey. The flight landed around 6.00 pm Kazakhstan time. After I got my che...
